6 December 1999 - KTA-SES will launch its Cyclone and Storm Surge Preparation Campaign,   at the Tambrey Centre, Karratha from 7.30pm on Monday December 6th.  Karratha SES Manager Steve Cable said it was absolutely essential for community members, particularly those living in the town's low-lying areas, to attend the meeting.   "We also want to target local business and industry representatives, because they need to be fully conversant with cyclone procedures.  A cyclone can have huge impact on their business, from both a financial and personal perspective."

Mr Cable siad the effects of a cyclone or storm surge should not be underestimated, as it has the potential to affect every member of the community.

The launch will include new tracking maps,  pamphlets on the Be Cyclone Ready campaign,  evacuation maps, evacuation centres and evacuation routes.  "We'll also be launching two new videos - 'Cylcone' and 'Storm Surge', plus there will be a professional video screened covering recent cyclonic events and storm surge footage.

Mr Cable will host the meeting, with members of the local SES unit present to answer questions and offer advice as needed.

Anyone wanting more information on the launch can contact the SES unit, any Monday night, on 9144 1848.
