Government description of GST (Personaly I think
its hogwash)
The goods and services tax (GST) is not an extra tax to be placed on top of existing taxes. It is an open and
simple tax which replaces a mixed bag of taxes so that you only pay tax once. Wholesale sales tax will be abolished, and so will nine
State and Territory taxes including taxes on bank accounts, stamp duties on mortgages, shares, rental agreements, leases and 'bed taxes'.
Provisional tax will also be abolished.
