At Millstream, fresh water springs from an aquifer fed by the Fortescue River catchment, providing a lush oasis surrounded by rugged plains and spinifex covered ridges. Cadjeput and palm trees surround the deep pools that have formed on the Fortescue River and Millstream Creek.
Originally inhabited by the Yinjibandi people, Millstream is still an important tribal place.
The rare Millstream Palm is found here and only 3 other places in the Pilbara (see Flora).
