The distinctive flowers and plants are part of the Pilbara's natural attractions. Spinifex dominates the vegetation, but there is a large variety of other plants, many with unusual, colourful flowers. The plants are well adapted to the arid conditions of the Pilbara and most grow during the dry season following a good seasonal wet.
