Fauna is rarely seen during the hot, dry days of the Pilbara climate. Life is governed by the need to conserve water and keep cool. Many animals are nocturnal, only venturing out in the coolness of night, hiding deep in the ground during the day. There are many species of mammal and reptile present in the Pilbara, as well as abundant insect life.
