The Dampier Archipelago lies off the north west coast of Western Australia. It consists of 42 islands made up of coastal cliffs, steep rock piles, sand plains and pristine beaches. The Archipelago was formed 6000 - 8000 years ago when the rising water level flooded costal valleys.

The Dampier Archipelago was originally inhabited by the Yapurrara people who left behind many rock engravings, especially on the Burrup Peninsula.
