SHIRE ADOPTS WASTE MANAGEMENT PLANS

The Shire of Ashburton has adopted a Waste Management Plan for the Onslow, Paraburdoo and Tom Price Waste disposal sites.

Shire President, Cr Brian Hayes said that the plans aim to consolidate current practices into an efficient operation, removing duplicated services, secure a long-term future for the sites and limit detrimental environmental impacts.

"The plans are consistent with Council’s overall waste management strategy which is to achieve socially acceptable, economically efficient and environmentally friendly waste disposal methods," said Cr Hayes.

Issues that the plans address include:

	Collection service optimisation;
	Plant maintenance and replacement;
	Staff safety and training;
	Disposal site management;
	Community education;
	Waste separation and recycling facilities;
	Continuous improvement; and
	Cost recovery methodologies.
