The Shire of Ashburton has approved the construction of a skateboard facility in Tom Price.

For some time Shire staff have been discussing the design and location of a skateboard facility with the young people of Tom Price.

At its May meeting the Council considered a draft design of the layout and was advised that the preferred site for the facility is the park on the corner of Central Road and Willow Road.

The Council has approved the construction of the facility on the site and will obtain quotes for the construction of the skate pad and supply of fencing materials.

Council allocated $35,000 in its 1997/98 budget and estimated costs have been obtained for the skate pad and fencing.

Council will allocate additional funding next financial year for the construction of ramps and a mini BMX track.

A plan of the site can be inspected at the Shire Offices in Tom Price.
