Commenting on his decision, Mr Carey said, "I have
enjoyed very much the four years I have spent with the Ashburton Shire Council.
During that time many changes have been made throughout the Council’s

worthwhile projects during my time with the Shire including refurbishment of the
Tom Price Swimming Pool, installation of lighting on the No. 2 Oval at Tom
Price, improved street lighting at Paraburdoo, the construction of the Onslow
Volunteer Emergency Services Centre and development of the basketball/tennis
courts at Pannawonica", he said.
"Beyond that I have also been fortunate to be involved
in projects and negotiations particular to North West local governments and in
particular the resources development industry", Mr Carey said.
Mr Carey said that he and his family will miss many aspects
of life in the Pilbara, in particular the relaxed lifestyle and the many friends

"I believe that the Shire of Ashburton has a very bright
future, particular with the economic development potential of Onslow and tourism
possibilities throughout the whole of the Shire", he said.
"I would like to thank the Councillors and the staff of
the Shire of Ashburton, both past and present for support given to me over the
