MEMBERSHIP

Libraries may be used by anyone for study, general reading or as a place of relaxation. To borrow books it is necessary to register as a member and obtain library tickets. Visitors to the area who are members of another library in the State may use their tickets at the Shire's libraries during their stay. Children are encouraged to join at an early age, so that they become familiar with public libraries and develop a love of the books as soon as possible. It is the responsibility of parents to ensure that the children's books are returned undamaged. Membership is free.

PERIOD OF LOAN

Books are loaned for a two week period, but may be renewed unless required by another borrower. The date due is stamped on a label inside each book. Please return books PROMPTLY so that others may also use them. A good library service depends largely on the Co-operation of its users. Books and tapes are relatively fragile, please care for them while they are in your possession. Please use book marks and do not turn down the pages of books. Please completely rewind tapes after use. Lost and damaged books should be reported immediately.

REFERENCE COLLECTION

All libraries have a collection of reference material which is a valuable source of general information. These books are not normally available for loan.

REQUEST SERVICE

Works of non-fiction, unavailable from the library may be obtained through the Inter Library Loans Branch which allows access to all books held in public libraries throughout the State. Fiction titles not normally obtained through this scheme may sometimes be obtained through local Fiction Inter loaning Scheme which operates not only among the Shire Libraries but also among other neighbouring Shires.

PRINTED SUBJECT CATALOGUE

This gives details of all books held in the State and it is available for consultation. In addition, the libraries have records of their own book holdings.

SPECIAL COLLECTIONS

Collections of books in LARGE PRINT, FOREIGN LANGUAGES, TALKING BOOK TAPES etc. are available along with magazines and audio tapes at some libraries.
