SHIRE OF ASHBURTON LOCAL LAWS Local governments may adopt local laws and these are made under sections 3.5 and 3.10 of the Local Government Act 1995. The Shire has undertaken a complete review and where necessary rewrite of all its local laws. These are available for perusal at all Shire Libraries or Shire Offices during normal office hours. The Council has local laws, which cover the following matters: Aerodromes This relates to the management and control of the Onslow Airport (refer Senior Officer (Western Sector)). Bush Fire Brigades This relates to the establishment, maintenance and equipment of volunteer bush fire brigades within the Shire. (Refer Senior Officer (Western Sector)) Cats This local law provides for rules and guidelines for the proper management and control of cats throughout the whole of the Shire (Refer Senior Administration Officer). Cemeteries This local law provides for rules and guidelines for the management and control of cemeteries located in Onslow and Tom Price (Refer Senior Administration Officer (Except Onslow Refer Senior Officer (Western Sector)). Dogs This local law provides for rules and guidelines for the management and control of dogs and for the management and control of kennel establishments and applies throughout the whole of the Shire (Refer Senior Administration Officer). Extractive Industries This local law relates to quarrying operations, it does not relate to major mining industries such as that undertaken by Robe River Iron or Hamersley Iron as State Agreement Acts cover them. (Refer Manager Technical and Development Services). Health This local law is designed to provide for the proper health requirements within the Shire such as food handling and to ensure that proper sanitary conditions are maintained (Refer Environmental Health Officer). Holiday Accommodation This local law provides for rules and guidelines for the management and establishment of Holiday accommodation. (Refer Environmental Health Officer) Parking Facilities This local law covers car parks under the care control and management of the Shire and provides for rules and guidelines for such things as disabled car bays, loading zones etc. (Refer Senior Administration Officer). Standing Orders This local law provides for rules and guidelines, which apply to the conduct of meetings of Council and council committees convened under the provisions of the Local Government Act 1995 (Refer Senior Administration Officer).
This local law provides for rules and guidelines for the management and control of the Vic Hayton Memorial Pool in Tom Price and the Paraburdoo Swimming Pool in Paraburdoo (Refer Swimming Pool Manager). Trading in Public Places This local law provides for rules and guidelines, which apply to the conduct of Hawkers, StallHolders and Traders in public places within the Shire. This also applies to community groups fundraising in public places (Refer Senior Administration Officer). Repeal of Local Laws (3 versions) These local laws repeal various outdated and obsolete local laws that were previously in existence (Refer Senior Administration Officer). All local laws, prior to being adopted by the Council are advertised and public comment sought.
