construction and maintenance of Parks and Gardens for local or public

Qualifications and/or Training:
Horticulture Certificate or relevant Industry experience;
Handling and use of pesticides;
Hold current "A" and "B" Class
licences.
KEY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise the operation of Council’s Parks and Gardens,
Waste Management and the Road Reserve Teams, ensuring:
adequate control of refuse collections and refuse site
operations;
maintenance of roads, streets, footpaths and drainage
systems, including reinstatements as required;
maintenance of street scapes and recreation facilities
and playground equipment, including design and implementation of landscaping
and reticulation;
Ensure that safe work practices are adhered to and that all
accidents, workers compensation issues and other incidents are reported and
documented;
Ensure accepted work standards are maintained;
Arrange materials and plant as required for Works and Parks
and Gardens Programs;
Monitor the preparation of employee time sheets and verify
attendance and time allocations;
Liaise with public utilities and authorities for the
co-ordination of works and the protection of services;
Negotiate with Government Departments, SEC, Telecom, MRD,
suppliers such as High Power in order to facilitate Council Programs;
Prepare Budget for Annual Maintenance and Capital
Expenditure requests;
Monitor the progress of works and expenditure against
budget allocations and report anticipated discrepancies to the Manager
Technical Services;
Co-ordinate and supervise contractors and works contracts;
Prepare monthly report on works, proposed works, plant
condition and other matters to the Manager Technical Services;
Implement training programs on all aspects of Parks and
Gardens, Drainage, Plant and Equipment, Fire Safety and Occupational Health
and Safety.
Establish and maintain Procedures Manuals for all aspects
of the working environment;
Any other duties consistent with the level of this position
and the principles of broadbanding.

EXTENT OF AUTHORITY:
Exercises a degree of autonomy, controls projects and/or
programs, sets outcomes for subordinates, establishes priorities and monitors

Solutions to problems can generally be found in documented
techniques, precedents, guidelines or instructions. Assistance is available
when required;
Signs orders for plant and materials that have been
approved in the Council’s annual budget;
