Following extensive staff and community consultation the Shire of Ashburton 1999 Directory again has been produced to provide residents and ratepayers with a one-stop-shop to the Council and its community.

In addition to being a valuable source of Council information, the 1999 Shire Directory will provide you with not only community

Information and resources, but also inclusions from many local businesses and tradesmen without which this Directory would not be possible. I extend my thanks to all the community groups, clubs, organisations and businesses that have contributed to this year's edition.

I am in my second year as Shire President and along with the other Councillors have been working tirelessly to ensure that with well thought out decisions fair and progressive policies are being developed. We, as your elected representatives are assisted by eager and professional staff who are working hard to achieve the objectives of the Strategic Plan and to foster economic prosperity and enhance the standard of living for people who live and work in this Shire.

The business of Council is not an easy task and many challenges lie ahead as we ensure that the Shire of Ashburton becomes a progressive, customer focussed organisation delivering services and providing infrastructure that is responsive and appropriate to the needs of the community. We owe it to you to provide efficient and effective services and this objecctive will remain of paramount importance.

I extend my thanks to Councillors, staff and the community for your support and contribution and look forward to working with you as together we work towards creating a better Shire. With teamwork and support we can help each and every one of us achieve the goals we set for our families, our community and ourselves.
